About Cybil Gilbertson
Cybil received her BA in DANCE from The University of California, Santa Barbara ('97). She has danced professionally since 1997 with Santa Barbara Dance Theatre, The California Coastal Project/Robin Bisio, LA Music Awards, SB NIGHTS, Santa Barbara Dance Alliance, Cirque Destino/Burningman Festival, Monterey Dance Collective, Esalen International Arts Festival and more. She has simultaneously pursued careers in Massage and Bodywork, Professional Pilates training and Yoga facilitation and has been teaching and practicing since 1999.
Pilates & Yoga
Cybil received her initial PILATES training from Noelle Stumpf and Adrienne Smith of Simpatico Pilates in 1999; to whom she is forever grateful. She also holds certifications from The Pilates Center, in Boulder Colorado and will soon complete her full comprehensive certification from BASI (Body Arts and Science International). She has also studied with Siri Dharma, Rael Izacowitz, Kristi Cooper-White and Sarah Bertucelli.
Cybil received her 200 hour YOGA certification from The White Lotus Foundation, in Santa Barbara, CA (2007). She also received certificates from Erich Schiffman and The Esalen Institute, where she assisted and studied in the "In-house Yoga Teacher Training" program with Johanna Holloman. She has also studied with Mark Whitwell, Thomas Fortel, Denise Zaverdas, Heather Tiddens and Eddie Ellner.
Cybil has taught at Blue Star Rising, Simpatico Pilates and Gyrotonic, La Playa Pilates and Wellness, The Esalen Institute (Big Sur, CA) and UCSB Department of Dance. She also completed an 18-month-residency at The Esalen Institute where she lived, worked and studied from 2005-06.
Cybil currently teaches classes and workshops at The Santa Barbara Yoga Center, Yoga Soup, The Santa Barbara Athletic Club and Dewild Pilates. (See the "teaching schedule" page to view class locations and times).
Massage & Bodywork
Cybil received her 200 hour certification from The Body Therapy Institute (BTI) in Santa Barbara, CA. She has also studied massage at Santa Barbara Bodyworks, The Esalen Institute; with Perry and Johanna Holloman and at Loi Kroh School of Massage, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Her modalities include, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai, Reflexology and Esalen-inspired massage. All modalities are skillfully and lovingly balanced together for a session that supports deep unwinding and therapeutic healing of body, mind and spirit.
Cybil has had a private practice since 2000 as well as practicing at Le Reve Organic Spa, La Playa Pilates and Wellness, SB Training, Santa Barbara Athletic Club and Centerpoint Pilates.
